2024

I took it upon myself to lead the creation of a scalable Design System for Simply Benefits’ employee benefits platform, ensuring consistency across the product while supporting white-label flexibility for enterprise clients such as NEO, RE/MAX and HUMI. This work unified our design language, accelerated development, and enabled seamless multi-brand experiences.

Summary

I built and scaled a comprehensive design system in Figma, including a full component library, colour tokens, typography standards, and supporting documentation. In addition to the core system, I designed white-label assets and mockups for multiple enterprise partners, ensuring brand consistency while maintaining product usability at scale.

Challenge

Simply Benefits’ platform had grown rapidly without a unified design system, leading to inconsistent UI patterns, duplicated components, and difficulties supporting white-label clients. Advisors, members, and admins each interacted with the platform differently, which made it difficult to deliver a seamless experience. Branding for new carrier partners also required time-consuming redesigns, slowing down the sales process and development cycles.

Solutions

To address these issues, I began by conducting a full UI audit across all four Simply Benefits portals to identify inconsistencies. From there, I built a unified component library in Figma, recreating each unique component based on code checks across the platform. I also developed design tokens for scalable colour and typography management, ensuring flexibility for both internal design and white-label adaptation.

The design system delivered measurable impact: it cut development time by 40% and allowed me to efficiently design over 100+ white-label mockups documents for the sales team. I also created brand-specific assets and flexible mockups for carrier partners, demonstrating how Simply’s platform could seamlessly adapt to their branding. To ensure long-term adoption, I produced detailed documentation for designers, engineers, and marketing teams, while working closely with engineering to align design tokens with frontend implementation.
